Character: Gladiolus Amicitia
Series: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Post-Cartanica
CRAU?: Yes! ( Wayward Pines )
History: A handy dandy Wiki link
Previous game history: Gladio is coming in from a brief stint spent over at Wayward Pines, a game based on the TV series / book of the same name; admittedly not very much happened to him while he was there, but taking into consideration being brought into the Pines means coming in with zero memory of who you are or where you come from etc etc, it makes a pretty decent impact. The only things he remembered when he woke up in the hospital were vague ( and happen to be conveniently listed right over here ), and gradually he began to remember the important bits of the things he'd forgotten. By the time he left, though, he'd managed to remember nearly everything and as of his arrival here he will have regained it all. ( Gotta love even the smallest passage of time with regards to canonpoints, right? Right. )
During his time here, he pretty much just: crossed paths with a handful of people that gawked at him for wandering about shirtless, found his sister and proceeded to hover over her like a mother chocobo, went camping and decided that despite the fake memories implanted in his head ( right, there are fake memories to expound on in a lower section! ) he was going to make new ones with a very important new person in his life. Also more on this below.
Personality: He's a giant guard dog whose bite is just as bad as his bark when the need arises and has a heart the size of Duscae.
But, wait, let's elaborate on that a little bit, and start off with the fact that he's a pretty upbeat guy with some decent people skills. For all his intimidating size ( and occasional demeanor, which comes later ), you might not expect someone with the ability to pick up pillars more than twice his height and probably ten times his weight to be so open and friendly, but he is. Always ready with a smile or a laugh, the latter of which tends to come as a follow-up to a ridiculous pun that either he or someone else has made — here's lookin' at you, Ignis — he's probably one of the easiest to get on with of the four chocobros, even if that means you'll find yourself listening to bad jokes and nerd laughter. ( But, as they say, ain't no bad joke like a dad joke. Something like that. )
Sharp wit ( and maybe a little bit of sarcasm ) is generally the way he responds to everything, unless it's something serious enough that it garners the use of the patented Amicitia Stoneface ( ™ ). The things he feels most passionately about are the things he tends to take most seriously, and most of those things stem from his loyalty and duty to the royal Lucian bloodline, as his father before him. "Loyal to a fault" isn't exactly the right sort of phrase to put here, but it colors the logic and reasoning behind most of what he does, both in service to the Crown and doing what he can to protect those he cares about. He believes in dignity, trust and honor almost above all else, and takes conviction in every action, owns every word that comes out of his mouth.
He cares, deeply about the things and people that are both closest to him and affect him the most; it's very difficult to dissuade him from his loyalty and faith in someone unless they've done something irreparable, because no matter how much of an idiot anyone tends to be, that's what humans do and his faith has a tendency to be unwavering. He's always been the type to care for others, in his own way — having a little sister that's eight years your junior has a tendency to instill a level of protectiveness that nothing else can touch, okay — and even if he tends to err on the side of tough love sometimes, it really is because he cares enough to want to see someone succeed. Have faith in themselves, and not just run off what's been supplied by an outside source. ( Help those that help themselves, or give them a swift kick in the ass to get them moving in the right direction, same thing, right? )
In short: giant teddy bear that doesn't mind kicking your ass when you need it, sense of humor that involves puns about beans and a moral code that strictly adheres to the expectations laid down by his father and what it means to shoulder the obligation by name Amicitia.
… Now for all those strengths up there there are probably an equal amount of weaknesses that end up cancelling everything out. Uh. Let's go.
Being possessed of a large heart has a tendency to lend to the ease of being led by it, and that's something that often gets in the way of logical thought. Following one's instinct more than listening to reason generally ends up in snap decisions — or a lack of patience to think things through, which he's definitely guilty of on more than one occasion — and while he'll argue that it's good to act on instinct because it's the most basic sort of thing in the whole of human nature, it's always an oversight to listen to one's heart over one's head. A nice mix of both is the way to go, but since when does that ever happen.
He also has some anger issues. ( "Some" here meaning "a bunch," but that's neither here nor there. ) For all the patience he has for most of the things in his everyday life, he has a bit of a short fuse and when something or someone comes along and pokes sore spots, purposely goads him, that short fuse is lit and in a manner of minutes he's fuming, just about ready to put his fist through the nearest wall. Or face. Or whatever might serve as a decent enough outlet for the emotions he doesn't know how to deal with, which brings around the next proverbial bulletpoint.
He's not great with verbalizing things he doesn't understand, which generally tends to mean that emotions are confusing and why do they need to be figured out — which often leads to him acting like he isn't taking something seriously, joking about it, etc. Or brushing it all back under the rug to deal with later, when he manages to convince himself that it isn't as difficult as he thinks, and he has a better grasp than his brain is conveying to him. He isn't stupid, by any means. Just a little stunted when it comes to communication, because words are hard and saying them is even harder.
He doesn't fear much outside of coming to the realization that he isn't strong enough to be the sort of Shield to the King that his father was, but at least he has no problem with admitting it, which is kind of the only time that he ever really admits to an allusion to fear of weakness or failure. Saying something like "I was wrong" or "I'm sorry" goes right back up there with words are impossible, and even if he has the right thing rolling around in his head it takes a lot to yank it out of him.
So, he's stubborn. Especially when he thinks he's right or he can't understand someone else's perspective. Which tends to be a lot more frequently than he's willing to let on to. Good job, Gladio.
Previous Game Development: Gladio's experience in the Pines didn't exactly serve to change his personality so much as … add a few things here and there that wouldn't have been there otherwise, which I suppose is the point — basically what I mean here is that his core personality remains intact and there are a few key interactions worth expounding on. Firstly, the whole thing started with a mess of fake memories that he wasn't aware he had until he met the people involved in them, the most important of which is Elsa. When he met her for the first time his mind was still a little fuzzy ( he'd only been there a month, himself, and still couldn't remember much beyond his name and the vague canon-based memories listed above ), but the more time they spent with one another the more they began to "remember" the memories that had been implanted in them following their "accident," ( it's always the excuse of an accident that leads newcomers to waking up in the hospital, whether it's car crash or someone falling off a ladder and hitting their head, anything that would easily explain away any situational amnesia ) and ultimately! They discovered that they were basically teenage sweethearts that might as well have been married at the age of fifteen. Or something. The kind of relationship you might expect to read about in a young adult novel with the exception of them never officially dating because they're silly.
… And then the beans were spilled about these memories being fake. Which, long story short has left him with the feeling that he should be wary of nearly everyone he comes across when he finds himself in a new place. ( Initially; he's generally a pretty trusting guy, but when you start messing around with a dude's memories? All bets are off. ) He and Elsa decided that they were going to build on the memories they'd been given of each other, fake or not, and make their own.
Nothing much else has changed save for an even deeper feeling of protectiveness for the people he cares for, which means that any castmates that might find themselves in his vicinity will find themselves possessed of their own personal guard dog. Especially if it's his little sister, Iris. Arf.
Also — he's aware of the existence of magic beyond that which being a member of the Crownsguard allows. His girlfriend can make her own snow flurries. Seriously.

Network Sample: ( so — it might take him a second or two to get the video working, which means that those one or two seconds of blank feed are supplemented by the sound of shuffling ( and maybe a tiny bit of muffled cursing ) in the background, but when he does finally figure it out? … literally all anyone is going to see is his forehead and maybe some of those resplendent eyebrows until he realizes that he's way too close. gladio. this is not a good first impression. could you please at least pretend that you know a bit more about technology than you actually do.
( the answer to that question, of course, is no. he cannot. )
another couple of seconds, and the whole of his face is visible, and boy does he look serious. ) I've got a really important question to ask, so if anybody could help a guy out, I'd really appreciate it. ( is he going to ask about if anyone has seen his bros? a brat prince, a sassy nerd, a blond whose hair looks like a chocobo's butt?
… uh. not exactly. not yet, at least. ) Does a thing called Cup Noodle exist here?
( HE'LL GET THERE. TO OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS.
but you just don't understand how important cup noodle actually is.
there might actually be a couple more seconds of silence before it appears something occurs to him, and he clears his throat to pipe up again. ) Oh, and uh. I was travelin' with three other guys before I wound up here. It's pretty important that I find 'em. ( is he. going to elaborate more than that? no. sorry to be so damned obscure, but when you've been trying to keep a pretty low profile for so long, he's not about to out himself or anyone else in the royal retinue just yet.
but also, cup noodle. )

Skills/Abilities:
→ Skills;
Trained from a very young age in order to uphold the title of King's Shield, he's been handling greatswords for most of his life and shows the kind of proficiency that only comes from years and years of practice. His weapons are heavy, which means he has possesses rather incredible strength in order to wield both a sword and shield — which gives him a delicate sort of balance between offensive and defensive stances, and often allows him to focus on either a single target or a group, dealing heavy damage no matter what sort of attack he ends up using. He's quick on his feet for a man his size, but the weight of such a large weapon lends to slower swings, and it all adds up to quality over quantity in battle.
→ Abilities;
Having trained for most of his life, putting himself through rigorous exercises ( like those damned upside-down pushups, jeez ) has gifted him with both strength and endurance, discipline to see things through no matter what happens to get in his way. Patience is also the kind of intangible virtue that plays a significant role in his day-to-day, even if it has a tendency to only stick around when faced with something as mundane as not knocking the Prince upside the head when he's being more of a brat than usual. He can also summon both his sword and shield from a nebulous space that exists outside of the real world, which really makes a hell of a difference when it means you don't have to cart around something that has to be about half your weight due to its sheer size.
